What's in a Name?

Everyone wants to know how we came up with the name for the boat. Naming the boat is something that was very personal to us, this is a big life transition we are embarking upon and we put a lot of thought into this, like about six months of thought. We had a running list of ideas, but when I saw the name that we ultimately decided on, it was instantaneous for me and I knew we were done.

We were on a road trip, I think we were headed to Ketchum to ride gravel bikes in a 102 mile sufferfest called Rebecca's Private Idaho. At the time, the list of names included ideas such as Swift, 45 North, Super Nova, Tofu (not kidding), Firefly and many others. I felt strongly about trying to incorporate the kids' names into the name and we both agreed that it had to have some sort of special meaning to both of us. I was actually very frustrated by the whole process and how lackluster the list was that we had. I'm not sure if an Erasure song was playing or I randomly thought to look at Erasure songs to try to get some inspiration, but that is where the magic happened. Robin and I have both loved the band Erasure since before we even meet and we danced to an Erasure song at our wedding, we are big fans. So I started scrolling through the very long list of songs and the moment I saw the title of the song "Blue Savannah" I was done, that was going to be the name of our boat. I remember feeling relief and closure when I read it. So not only does it have the Erasure connection, but more importantly I immediately saw the possibility to easily have both Ava and Noah in the logo. That's the story, haven't spent another moment thinking about it.

Not familiar with Erasure, take a listen!

Thanks for following along as we embark on our sailing journey across the blue savannah.
